So why is your computer running slow?

There could be several reasons, but I will walk you through a few of the most common and help you fix them in under 5 minutes.

Most Common Problem #1 - Too many start up programs.

If you have to many programs that start up with your computer this can lead to major slowdown, especially if you have low ram. For optimal boot up times uncheck some of these programs from starting up in the msconfig menu (start, run, msconfig). This will also free up your ram to open things like your browser or word processor more quickly.

Most Common Problem #2- Spyware, Malware, and Viruses

If you surf the net a lot, and don't have a anti-virus system active (bad idea), then your computer could be riddled with spyware and viruses. These have very negative affects on PC performance and can also cause error messages. AVG is a great anti-virus program and it's free. I highly recommend you get one if you don't have one already.

Most Common Problem #3- Cluttered, Bloated, and Corrupted Registry

The Windows registry is really the heart of the operating system. It is where Windows and all the programs within get their operating instructions from. If there is even the slightest error in the Windows registry, it can cause big problems.

Luckily there is software out there that can scan your registry for major issues and correct it automatically. Every program you have ever installed leaves information in the registry, even after it is uninstalled. If you've never ran a registry cleaner before, then all that information is bloating your registry and slowing your computer down.
