Website Technology And Information In The Future

by - December 05, 2019

Website Technology and Information - Google launched the 50th version of their flagship browser, Chrome. Currently, the latest version can be enjoyed by Chrome users on PCs based on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Google said that updates for Android and iOS in the Asian region will also follow tomorrow (4/21).

Welcoming the launch, Tech in Asia had the opportunity to chat with Rahul Roy-Chowdury, Director of Product Management of Chrome, via video call. Rahul explained some interesting things related to the use of web applications in the future and the development of Chrome to date.
Web application or mobile application?

Speaking about the comparison between web applications and mobile applications that are now rife, Rahul explained that both types of applications have their respective advantages. "Mobile applications do make it easier for us to access a service. But the developers must not forget that most users are reluctant to download too many applications, and only use a few main applications, "Rahul said.

Conversely, despite having some limitations, web applications are still widely used. The reason is because it can make it easier for users to find new sites and services. Web applications can also be accessed from any operating system, not limited to several operating systems such as Android and iOS, for example.

"Web applications have extraordinary abilities. With the help of links and the presence of search engines, the services we make can be better known to the public, "Rahul explained.

To overcome the differences in the two types of applications, Google has even launched a service that allows you to use mobile applications through a browser.
A bright future for web applications

According to Rahul, web applications will experience many changes for the better in the next few years. One technology that is being looked at at the moment is Progressive Web App (PWA). With PWA, developers can present a site with a display similar to the appearance of a mobile application.

"Currently PWA has been implemented by Flipkart in India. And in the near future will be followed by several sites in Indonesia such as Kaskus, Bukalapak, and Babe, "said Rahul.
Fast, easy and safe

Regarding Chrome, since starting to build the browser eight years ago, Google has always been principled that Chrome should be a browser that is fast, easy, and safe when used. "Without a browser that fulfills these three things, any sophisticated web application will be useless," Rahul explained.

And so far, Chrome has proven successful in meeting these three things. The data saving function implemented by Chrome saves two million GB of internet quota for their users every month.

In addition, Chrome has also translated as many as 3.6 billion pages of foreign-language sites every month to make it easier to understand. In terms of security, Chrome noted that they have prevented users from accessing insecure sites 145 million times each month.
Lots to learn from Indonesia and India

Specifically in terms of browser speed and user internet quota savings, Rahul admitted that Chrome learned a lot from Indonesia and India. In recent years, they have just learned that smartphones are the main device used by the people of the two countries in accessing the internet.

"Since two years ago, we have continued to learn how Indonesians and Indians use the internet. And we were surprised to see how they often turn off data access to save on internet quota, "Rahul said.

From various phenomena they encountered, finally Chrome tried several things to speed up their browser in displaying a web page, while saving data that users had to download. One of the things they do is to download only the important images, from the webpage the user wants to access.

Interestingly, after doing this, many users in developed countries are also happy with this Chrome update. "It turns out that even in Silicon Valley, there are some places that have bad internet connections. Chrome users there have also been helped with the current speed of Chrome, "concluded Rahul.
Future Trends of Websites

Starting 2017, Google Webmaster officially introduces their latest Mobile First Indexing algorithm, which in certain cases, Google will prioritize the contents of the mobile version of a website to rank search results.

This certainly makes us, practitioners of digital marketing, especially those who pursue the world of SEO as its core business, must start to worry about the appearance of the website and the completeness of the mobile version of the information from a website.
Mobile-first Indexing Is Beginning

The appearance of this update, is actually just a sign that user experience or user satisfaction visiting our website (both mobile and desktop versions) will always be Google's top priority in determining the quality of a webpage.

Along with that too, it is not impossible that old SEO techniques that we used to know like link building, meta tags, and focus keywords will end in a short period of time. This is in accordance with what Matt Cutts (the Google SafeSearch founding father and web spam team at Google) said:

Links might become less important as Google starts understanding actual language.

- Matt Cuts

If the backlink (which has been said to be a major factor in SERP) is no longer a major consideration, then how does Google rank pages in its search engine? Let's try
Mobile-friendly website

As already noted in the article above, visitor satisfaction with the appearance of the mobile version of our website will be an important factor considering the Google search trend has been done more via mobile devices than desktops.

In fact, more Google searches take place on mobile devices than on computers in 10 countries including the US and Japan.

- Googleblog Adwords

So, make sure the mobile version of your website is comfortable enough for users both in terms of design, features and the content of the writing itself. To check whether your website has mobile usability issues or not, you can see through the search console with this link:
Visitor Satisfaction is the Key

Previously, we should understand two basic things related to Google's search engine, first they are businesses, so businesses with their main customers are people who are in need of information. Second, they write clearly in their mission statement what does Google really stand for:

Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful.

- Google's Mission Statement

So it's clear, that the key to being Google's client in search engines is to provide what Google's customers need. To find this out, there are several metrics that we can measure to see the satisfaction of our website visitors, including:
On-page Time: a long time someone is on a website
Click-through rate: the possibility of someone clicking on a link
Bounce rate: bounce rate

So, after optimizing search results through content marketing through title and meta description, the task that is no less important then is to make sure what we present on the mobile version of the website is as informative as the desktop web version. The question is, are we ready to satisfy our visitors who come from mobile devices?
Progressive Web Apps

Perhaps many do not know about this term, after previously spoiling mobile users with a fast web version of Google AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages), this time I will discuss a bit of a broader topic than SEO, namely: The Future of the Website.

So, if we try to combine the two things above, then there is one answer that can summarize everything: Progressive Web Apps.

Maybe I will discuss this topic in depth in the next article (read: please subscribe: D). In short, this PWA is an application that can be run from a website regardless of the type of browser. This is based on the following facts:

An average smartphone user downloads an average of almost zero new apps per month. Fatigue is real app

- Neil Patel

Yep, periods of application flooding like this will not last long, people used to use the website as a promotional medium for an application, along with the development of mobile users and responsive UX web trends, forcing users to download applications to use certain services already less relevant.

PWA successfully answered this challenge as a term for websites that can accommodate services like applications only by accessing certain domains.

Quran.com is one of my favorite PWA, this website provides services for reading, listening and learning Quran translations online. All features can be accessed even through a mobile browser, sophisticated.
Conclusion

In the end, there are two keys that we can optimize in terms of SEO for a website, first in terms of content, how we package information in words, as well as the appearance of the website that sometimes, inevitably requires us to be able to have simple code expertise about HTML , CSS and more.

If you don't have time to run both of them to keep your business in cyberspace, maybe recruiting a digital marketing partner might be one solution for you. Interested in discussion? please greet us through the comments column.
